چکیده

We study the existence of minimizers for 2-dimensional ferromagnetism with various assumptions on different terms of the total energy. Our general philosophy for finding the minimizing magnetizations is to reduce this problem to a minimization problem for a new energy over a divergence-free field. Such a general philosophy works for all dimensions. However, in the twodimensional case, since the divergence-free fields are equivalent to the rotated gradients, this new energy can be written as an integral functional of gradients and hence the minimization problem can be solved by some non-convex minimization procedures in the calculus of variations. We will apply this general philosophy to the two-dimensional case in this paper and to the three-dimensional situation in a future work. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of existence/non-existence depending on the applied field H and the physical domain Ω.

Signature of coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in two-dimensional NbSe2 triggered by surface molecular adsorption

Ferromagnetism is usually deemed incompatible with superconductivity. Consequently, the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism is usually observed only in elegantly designed multi-ingredient structures in which the two competing electronic states originate from separate structural components. Here we report the use of surface molecular adsorption to induce ferromagnetism in two-dim...

Room-temperature ferromagnetism of graphene.

Aiming at molecular-based magnets, ferromagnetism of pure carbon-based materials is fundamentally and technologically extremely important for many applications. While it is still not fully understood, many recent theoretical works have suggested that one-atom-thick two-dimensional graphene materials may show ferromagnetism due to the existence of various defects or topological structures as the...

سیستمهای الکترونی همبسته قوی در شبکه‌های ناکام

We give an overview of recent work on charge degrees of freedom of strongly correlated electrons on geometrically frustrated lattices. Special attention is paid to the checkerboard lattice, i.e., the two-dimensional version of a pyrochlore lattice and to the kagomé lattice. For the checkerboard lattice it is shown that at half filling when spin degrees of freedom are neglected and at quarter f...

Quantum hall ferromagnetism in a two-dimensional electron system

Experiments on a nearly spin degenerate two-dimensional electron system reveals unusual hysteretic and relaxational transport in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime. The transition between the spin-polarized (with fill fraction nu = 1/3) and spin-unpolarized (nu = 2/5) states is accompanied by a complicated series of hysteresis loops reminiscent of a classical ferromagnet. In correlation ...

Ferromagnetism in the two-dimensional periodic Anderson model

Using the constrained-path Monte Carlo method, we studied the magnetic properties of the two-dimensional periodic Anderson model for electron fillings between 1/4 and 1/2. We also derived two effective low-energy theories to assist in interpreting the numerical results. For 1/4 filling, we found that the system can be a Mott or a charge-transfer insulator, depending on the relative values of th...

Coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in two dimensions.

Ferromagnetism is usually considered to be incompatible with conventional superconductivity, as it destroys the singlet correlations responsible for the pairing interaction. Superconductivity and ferromagnetism are known to coexist in only a few bulk rare-earth materials. Here we report evidence for their coexistence in a two-dimensional system: the interface between two bulk insulators, LaAlO(...
